Patriotic Trifle

No-Bake Trifle Dessert

Of course I’m a girl that loves dessert! But I’m also a girl who doesn’t enjoy turning on the oven when it’s so hot outside! Everybody needs to have to dessert, especially when entertaining! Nobody wants to skip dessert just because it’s summer! Sure, I love a good cobbler, crisp, cookie, or delicious bundt cake. But the HEAT!

What’s a girl to do?

Solution: a trifle!

What’s a trifle? Cake. Fresh whipped cream. Fresh fruit. Cream cheese filling. Need I say more?

This patriotic trifle is not only adorable, but it’s packed with flavor. The soft cake is a delicious lemon pound cake. The tangy cream cheese filling balances out the sweetness of the other ingredients. The fresh strawberries and blueberries make this dessert feel a teeny bit less naughty.

These 4th of July are perfect for summer! Here’s what you’ll need:



Pound cake

A store bought pound cake (because who wants to turn on the oven, am I right?)

Fresh strawberries and blueberries

Fresh fruit

Fresh blueberries and strawberries

Cheesecake filling

16 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature (but not warm)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup (4 ounces) powdered sugar
1/2 cup sour cream
3/4 cup cold heavy whipping cream



Step 1. Make the cheesecake filling

In a large bowl with an electric handheld mixer (or using an electric stand mixer), mix the cream cheese, vanilla and powdered sugar until smooth and light, 2-3 minutes.

Add the sour cream and whipping cream and mix until very thick and creamy, 4-5 minutes.  Set aside.


Step 2. Now for the fun part! The assembly!

Cut your cake into 1” cubes.

Trifle Bowl

Step 3.

Put a layer of cubes in the bottom of your trifle bowl. Push them down with your hand to make sure they cover the bottom of your dish. (If you don’t have a trifle bowl, you can use a regular clear bowl, too!)

Cover the pound cake

Step 4. 

Cover the pound cake with a layer of the cheesecake filling. Smooth it out all the way to the edges.

Add Strawberries

Step 5. 

Next, add a layer of fresh fruit. You choose which fruit you’d like! You can add strawberries or blueberries of both! It’s up to you! 

Repeat Layers

Step 6.

Keep repeating the layering process until your trifle almost reaches the top of the bowl. (Usually 2-4 more times)

Finish the top

Step 7. 

Garnish the top of the trifle with extra blueberries and strawberries and fresh whipped cream!

Trifles are great for entertaining, for a 4th of July party or just for your family! Your guests might get a little excited at the sight of big Patriotic Trifle! Can you blame them?
